The Spiritual Wickedness of This World

Your social life, careers, internet access, and cellphones are only a small part of our world. Few people are aware of or comprehend the existence of a spiritual world. If you don’t recognize or understand it, you’ll end up in hell. It is a spiritual world that is present in our daily lives, but that relatively few people recognize or believe in. Jesus warns us of this world; the following verse highlights that believers struggle not just physically but also spiritually against satanic forces.

Ephesians 6:12
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Jesus’ discussion on spiritual wickedness highlights the fierce and unseen struggle that Christians endure daily. The term “spiritual wickedness” describes satanic forces that operate in invisible domains and have an impact on governments, churches, society, and human conduct.

Deception, disobedience, distraction, lasciviousness, immorality, and any other evil system that goes against God’s will are all caused by these satanic forces. Bloodshed, war, and hatred are motivated by spiritual wickedness and are carried out by individuals who willingly or unwillingly become tools of these unseen forces. For a Christian, nothing in this corrupt realm is profitable.

So how do you recognize this spiritual wickedness? How do we protect ourselves from this satanic realm? First, you must be born again. The unsaved person cannot understand God nor His Word, because they are spiritually discerned. (1st Corinthians 2:14)

To be “born again” means to have the Spirit of Jesus Christ born in us (Romans 8:9). It means to have He who is the beginning, Jesus Christ, born in us (Revelation 1:8). When we place our complete faith (trust) in Christ, the Holy Spirit of God literally unites with our spirit (which was once dead), and we become a new creature, a child of God. As a born-again child of God, we can truly worship God in spirit and truth because we have the Holy Spirit abiding in our bodies (John 4:24).

The very moment that you are born again and you have the Holy Spirit abiding in your body, this realm of spiritual wickedness is revealed to you, and you will begin to recognize and understand it. You will then have the ability to resist and overcome spiritual wickedness. You will still suffer fierce and unseen struggles, but you will be able to resist the spiritual wickedness that fuels these struggles.

The world we live in today is ending very soon. Spiritual wickedness is dominating this world and anyone who submits to it. Jesus will be calling those born again home before the great tribulation. (1 Thessalonians 4:17) Until that day, get saved and put on the whole armor of God (Ephesians 6:11-24) so that you may stand against the rulers of the darkness of this world and against spiritual wickedness in high places.
